Social Leverage LLC is a partnership that invests in exceptional entrepreneurs in the technology space. We partner with promising companies, bringing our own entrepreneurial expertise, relationships, and marketing experience to the fore. Our portfolio companies benefit from our hands on involvement in all stages of development. More pointedly, social leverage is about leveraging our extensive network of industry relationships and expertise to help grow great companies and build great products.
Investment Criteria
Our typical investment size is $100,000 to $500,000. We look for founders with domain experience, and investment premise that caters to powerful demographic trends, visibility on revenue models, and an investment group we can be proud of; in some cases, we will be happy to put together that group.

Howard Lindzon

Howard Lindzon

Founder – General Partner

Howard Lindzon has more than twenty years experience in the financial community acting in both an entrepreneurial and investing capacity. With a unique vision for starting, managing, and successfully advising innovative companies, Lindzon is the public-face of the Social Leverage entities. Mr. Lindzon is Co-Founder and Chairman of StockTwits, which was recently named “one of the top 10 most innovative companies in web” by FastCompany and one of the “50 best websites” by Time magazine (where he invented the “cashtag”). Lindzon created more than 400 original videos on Wallstrip, which was acquired by $CBS in 2007.

Lindzon recently stepped down from his operational role as CEO on December 31, 2013, to focus on the next phase of Social Leverage. As acting Chairman, Lindzon’s connection to StockTwits along with his hedge fund experience, give Social Leverage access to a community of professionals who can evaluate fintech opportunities.

As an angel Lindzon has had many successful investments including: Rent.com (purchased by eBay in 2005 for $415 million), Golfnow.com (purchased by Comcast in June 2008), Buddy Media (acquired by SalesForce in2012 for $745 million) and Lifelock (2012 IPO, billion+ market cap). He hasbeen an early Twitter shareholder, having invested in Summize (acquired in 2008) and TweetDeck (acquired in 2011). He’s also an early indirect investor in Uber through a FoF investment.

Mr. Lindzon received an MBA at Arizona State University and an MIM from The American Graduate School of International Management.

Tom Peterson

Tom Peterson

Founder – General Partner

Tom Peterson is the President and CEO of the Social Leverage Group of Companies. He is General Partner and Co-Founder of Social Leverage, an established early stage venture capital firm with offices in San Diego, CA and Scottsdale, AZ specializing in web-enabled start ups.

As early angel investors, Lindzon and Peterson have backed successful startups like LifeLock (NYSE: LOCK), GolfNow (Comcast), Rent.com (eBay), BuddyMedia (Salesforce), GoInstant (SalesForce), Assistly (Salesforce), Tweetdeck (Twitter), Kensho, Robinhood, Simply Measured, eToro, TicketFly, AngelList, Tubemogul, Betaworks and more. The firm primarily invests in mobile/cloud SaaS, financial technologies, business intelligence & analytics, developer tools, monetization infrastructure, consumer marketplaces, and e-commerce.

In 2011, Lindzon and Peterson were recognized by the key industry publication, Institutional Investor as one of 12 “Super-Angels,” helping to reorganize early-stage investing with disciplined capital, uniform investing rules and a sense of community which traditionalventure capital took notice.

In 2012, they subsequently raised their second small micro-VC fund. With 90+ investments closed, Peterson manages the day-to-day business of Social Leverage and assists portfolio companies in need with operational and corporate development expertise. He has a strong fiduciary presence with experience as President & COO of NASDAQ (NTRL) prior to leading the privatization of the company.

He holds a B.A. from the University of Alberta and a MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State. When he is not spending time with portfolio companies, Tom enjoys traveling, skiing, hockey and hanging out with friends and family.

Gary Benitt

Gary Benitt

General Partner

Gary Benitt is a seasoned serial entrepreneur, having been a part of four founding teams in both consumer and B2B companies over the past 18 years. Most recently, he spent 3 years with Salesforce.com as the Desk.com COO after his company, Assistly, was acquired in 2011. Previously, Gary was with AOL after his prior startup (Goowy Media) was acquired in early 2008. Gary has managed various technology and go to market teams including business operations, customer service, client implementation and success, engineering and QA. He brings broad knowledge across all facets of growing a business from startup into a mature organization.

Chris Corriveau

Chris Corriveau

Technical Advisor

Chris is the CTO at MojoPages a local business directory. Previously he was the CTO at StockTwits, the leading social financial platform for sharing ideas. He has been responsible for the technology and innovation that has made StockTwits one of Times '50 Best Websites' and “one of the top 10 most innovative companies in web” by FastCompany. Chris lead the development team in creating one of the best financial APIs for the social web and constantly innovating to to create big financial data available to a multitude of fintech sites and users. Prior to StockTwits, Chris was the CTO and Co-Founder of Genevate, a highly successful web-applications firm that built Ruby on Rails-based platforms for companies all over the world, including the first StockTwits website.

Chris is an advisor and mentor to many companies in San Diego and beyond. He also worked in Silicon Valley after graduation from Cogswell College for Cisco Systems, and for startups GetMedia and OpenGrid.
